Help us to build community through physical activity! We developed River's Way/ YMCA fitness programming to build community among people of all abilities. This program includes weight lifting, yoga and walking. Volunteers get to exercise while teaming with youth and young adults with differing abilities. The program takes place at the YMCA of Bristol and it runs from 2:00 PM- 5:00 PM, Monday- Thursday. We welcome volunteers to join us at any time during those hours.

FTHRA partnered with Meals on Wheels America need volunteers to deliver nutritious meals to seniors in your community - you only need about an hour. Meals are picked up at a nutrition site between 9:30 am - 11:00 am Monday - Friday and take approx. 1 to 1.5 hrs. to deliver. Our volunteers are often the only person a meal recipient will see during the day and your smile means the world to them. If you have an hour once a month or once a week, we can use your help! We need volunteers in all areas, Washington County, Unicoi County, Greene County, Sullivan County, Carter County, Hawkins County, Hancock County, and Johnson County.

Remember not so long ago when everyone, except for essential workers, were stuck at home? What if that never ended for you. What if you were not able to get out of the home or to even cook your own meal? What if you had little to no family around and there you are unable to get out with others.

You can make a difference in people's lives. You can take a couple of hours out of your day to make a world of difference to someone homebound. Countless times we hear from recipients how they would not have a meal if it was not for volunteers bringing a meal to their door. Sometimes, the visit is also a welfare check; making sure that person is okay. You may brighten a person's whole day just by chatting with them for a few minutes. 

Won't you take a couple of hours out of your day to make a lifetime of difference to someone in need? 

Areas of need in eight counties in Northeast TN: Washington, Sullivan, Carter, Unicoi, Greene, Johnson, Hawkins, and Hancock. 

We especially have needs for volunteers in Hampton, Church Hill, and Johnson City at this time. Other areas available as well. 

General grounds maintenance is needed at the Boys & Girls Club Virginia site:  weed-eating, lawn work, cleaning up trash. If anyone has a pressure washer to clean our buildings, please notify us because this is a need as well. 

Our playground needs a set of volunteers to re-mulch it so that it is as safe as possible for the kiddos we serve to play on it and stay active while also making sure the space is not prone to child injury. 

Beyond this, general maintenance around the outside playground at our Bristol Virginia club site needs to be performed (cutting grass, pulling weeds, etc.) 

United We're Strong! United Way of Greater Kingsport is launching a new initiative, Community Ambassadors for a Diverse Kingsport. We need volunteers from the Greater Kingsport community to act as "hosts" to people of color and multicultural families that are new and/or incoming residents to the area. In providing this extra layer of hospitality and support, the goal is for newcomers to become engaged and active in our community. Therefore seeing a positive increase in diversity for companies, community organizations, schools, churches and the region! 

Requirements: Each participating individual or family will be matched with a "Host". Thats where you come in!  The host will help facilitate relationships, connections, and help the participants to get involved in local organizations and community events.

We need volunteers to work with our camp management team to conduct service projects at Camp Davy Crockett.

Meals on Wheels needs you. We need volunteers to take meals to homebound seniors. Volunteer as little as once a month, once a week, or more often. Routes take about an hour to an hour and a half. We need volunteers in Johnson City, Kingsport, Stoney Creek, Mount Carmel, and more.  Sites to pick up the meals are convenient to the location of the route. 

We have moved to a new location and are in need of help getting our barn ready to be used for clothing referrals! We need help putting gravel in several horse stalls as well as cleaning them out.

We are looking for positive adult role models to work with children through neighborhood based Scouting programs. No experience required. Must be 21 years of age, submit to a background check, and agree to the regulations of the Boy Scouts of America.

We'll take care of the background check, which is required by law. Then, after a one-hour training session, you'll be ready to meet your Reading Buddy.

The Ombudsman Program needs volunteers for visits to the residents in long-term care facilities. Trained volunteer representatives of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program visit residents in nursing homes or other long-term care facilities and establish a regular presence in the facility. They provide information about resident rights, quality of care, and quality of life to residents and family members. Volunteers also observe conditions, advocate for residents, and handle simple complaints.

Will assist the Stay & Play staff with playing games and doing crafts with the children 6 months to 5 years of age. Will help in some cleaning and organizing of the Stay & Play area. Must be 14 years of age.

Exchange Place Living History Farm Museum is in need of folks who enjoy maintaining buildings, grounds, and fencing.  Exchange Place relies on volunteers to keep the historic site safe and sound for the year 'round residents (sheep, chickens, horses, donkey, and cow) and for visitors to the site.  There is always a need for maintaining existing fencing (both barbed wire and historic wooden fencing) and erecting new fencing.  In the warmer months, there is always a need for lawn mowers and weed eaters too.  And there's plenty of building maintenance to be done the year 'round also.  Even an hour or two here and there of your help would be of great benefit to the site.      

Spend time with expectant and new moms in the Hope House Residential Program.  Sometimes the days and weekends get lonely for moms in between jobs or continued education.  Be a friend to those looking for someone to come up alongside them in their journey forward. This position offers varied opportunities and flexibility--hang out with a mom, go on an outing, teach a skill, accompany on an errand or appointment, go to church together, model healthy family living.  Volunteers schedule with and serve under the guidance of the Residential Director.  Shifts of an hour  (or more if you prefer), at your convenience-- day, evening, weekend; once a week, once a month, or at your availability.

Hope House is excited to launch a new program ministering to expectant fathers and/or fathers of young children.  We are in the process of pulling together a team of men willing to help build this program and mentor dads needing parenting, life skills, relationship, and spiritual support.  Interested volunteers can contact the Hope House Executive Director, Victoria Heinz, at (423) 247-7994. 

These Volunteer workers assist the Cook by preparing equipment for cooking.  It also involves preparing ingredients for meals, including measuring, mixing and combining foods for cooking.  Handles containers of cooked food.  Serves individual portions into containers, which are then grouped according to five delivery routes with regular and sugar-free meals.  Assists with clean up of cooking utensils, stove top and ovens, as needed.  May also assist with keeping track of food in the pantry, refrigerators, and freezers.  Serve in the kitchen, located in the basement and accessed by an elevator located inside the main church building or through the loading dock.

Note: On days when Sullivan County schools or Colonial Heights Baptist Church are closed, the service is not provided.

These Volunteers, using their own vehicle and at their own expense, pick up meals on their designated delivery day(s) each month.  The meals are available between 9:15-9:45 a.m. for delivery to recipients along one of five designated routes.  The meals are identified as either regular or sugar-free and there are anywhere from approximately 8 - 18 meals per route to be delivered.  Each day, a route sheet is provided to drivers that provides detailed driving instructions that identify the shortest routes and safest roads to travel.  The route sheet also indicates which recipients get the regular or sugar-free meals.  Pick up meals adjacent to the kitchen, located in the basement and accessed from the parking lot by an elevator located inside the main church building or through the loading dock door.

Note: On days when Sullivan County schools or Colonial Heights Baptist Church are closed, the service is not provided.

Girls Inc. of Kingsport is looking for volunteers willing to commit to mentoring our girls. Mentors must be 18 years of age or older. Mentors must be willing to commit to 1-2 hours a week. Program will begin in October.

Seen any forlorn Little Libraries around the Kingsport area? Our local book-lending boxes are always in need of an "adoptive steward" to help restock, clean, spruce up and take care of them! These "Little Free Libraries" are great ways to ensure that kids and adults in our area have quick, easy access to free books--anytime!
