Looking for an outdoor conservation volunteer commitment, that also gives back for flood recovery? ARCD and Partners are building a dedicated team of 10-15 committed volunteers who want to play a significant role in stabilizing barren and eroding rivers and streambanks along the Nolichucky and other rivers in northeast Tennessee left behind by Hurricane Helene. Volunteers will get in the dirt - digging holes, doing minor hand grading, planting trees and livestakes and spreading mulch, straw and grass seed. This is a perfect volunteer opportunity for active people who have the time, energy and enthusiasm to commit to investing 8-12 +/- hours per month over the next year.
Volunteer Tennessee Stream Team members receive:Intensive education and training from professional bio-engineering and conservation experts with University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Appalachian RC&D and other natural resource agenciesBranded outdoor clothing and other SWAGMileage reimbursement for travel costs to and from work sitesInvitations to fun social events (paid for by generous private donors) with other Team members and Partners where we celebrate successes and lessons learnedSnacks and beverages on the day of work events
Work days will take place approximately once per month over the next year (and possibly longer) as part of our post-Helene river recovery efforts. Carter County currently has a need for hardwood floor installation. Installing hardwood flooring is an intricate process that needs a high level of expertise. We have Carter County Hurricane Helene survivors that due to a recent health debilitation issue, cannot install the flooring themselves. They have all the materials, they just need volunteers with skilled hands and hearts for service.

We have several locations where damage from Hurricane Helene flooding deposited trash and other small debris in the yards of private homeowners and destroyed flora. We need volunteers who would love to contribute to Cocke County's rebuilding efforts through landscaping service.

This would include the following:

Collecting micro trash into bags for disposal.

Mowing lawns

Weed eating

Planting flowers or working in the garden

Trimming Bushes and Trees

Rebuilding or reshaping garden beds

Raking

Moving landscaping supplies around a property
