Who We Are

In 2000, Washington County Department of Education was privileged to be one of ten school systems to pilot the Coordinated School Health program. The goal of the program is to eliminate health-related barriers to learning in a holistic manner so that teachers can teach and students can learn.

What We Do

Efforts to meet the needs of students are addressed in an eight component model. Each component addresses a particular aspect of the coordinated approach. The components are:

-Health Education

-Physical Education/Physical Activity

-Health Promotion for Staff

-Counseling and Psychological Services

-Health Services

-Healthy School Environment

-Nutrition Services

-Student/Parent/Community Involvement.

By definition, all Coordinated School Health components work together to improve students' health and their capacity to learn through support of families, communities and schools working together.
