Who We Are
The Sullivan County Imagination Library (SCIL) provides free, age-appropriate Imagination Library books, which are mailed monthly to all registered children from birth to age five, regardless of family income. This is 60 books in all, if the child is registered at birth. The books are a specially-developed collection, chosen to spark the love of reading and to encourage parents to read to their children.
What We Do
The Sullivan County Imagination Library (SCIL) is an affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and a partner with the Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation. The Dollywood Foundation operates the book selection and fulfillment process for all the affiliates, but provides no direct funding. Funded through a grant from the State of Tennessee, the Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation co-sponsors the Imagination Library in every Tennessee county, matching one-half of the annual costs associated with the books and mailing, or $12.60 per child, per year. The Board of Directors of the Sullivan County Imagination Library registers Sullivan County preschool children at no cost to the parents, manages the local database, and raises funds from individuals, businesses, grants, and non-profit groups to pay the additional $12.60 per child, per year which is needed.
